Yesss! The NBA season is upon us. Another year of fierce competition and thriving entertainment. I'm feeling blessed. So Happy New Year! I said it last year and let me reiterate…basketball is my religion. It's a part of my foundation and gives me balance in life. Today is my New Year. I am itching to start playing again. From a player's perspective, truthfully, the game and season is long…it is a grind but honestly there is nothing like it. If you ask me, it's the greatest job in the world.

Anyways, wanted to write a little here about my buddy Ryan Shazier and how Alopecia connected us. For those who do not know, he is a NFL linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers and he, like me, has Alopecia Areata. He doing great things and is helping the Alopecia community in more ways than one. He and I are starting to build a special relationship, which started over Twitter out of all places. ESPN did a great piece on him, make sure you check out this story: http://espn.go.com/blog/pittsburgh-steelers/post/_/id/15861/steelers-ryan-shazier-on-a-mission-to-help-kids-with-alopecia

No one really talks about it, but Alopecia, especially for young kids, can alter a person's life tremendously. It did for me. I'm living proof. Like Ryan, I am "on a mission", to get the awareness level up, to spread the right message, to get people talking about it, to start and carry a movement. A movement filled of great need and hope. It is one of the main reasons why I launched: NBASeasonX.com. It is why I am trying to tell my story through this biopic, "Season X". And for those who have not been following me closely, I am working on a film based on my life, which share different stories that I have experienced through Alopecia, in addition to the influence it has on me over my NBA career. It is tentatively scheduled to debut at NBA All-Star Weekend 2016 in Toronto (where it all started for me).

You know originally, I wasn't really for sharing my personal story through this biopic, but I saw what the team at Tivity Social could do and I really felt like this was my moment to inspire. I live with a purpose. And my purpose is based on the positive effect I have on others. That is what this is about…making sure the next kid with Alopecia or simply anyone with self-confidence issues can overcome and still fulfill his/her dream. If I can do it, why can't they? And to be REALLY honest, I had no idea what Kickstarter was all about, but I was swayed and I get it now. I want this movement to carry the right message. I want people to start talking about Alopecia, to continue to support anti-bullying, to start accepting people for who they are…no matter what. So it's special to me to have you guys involved in the project.

So here I am...on my mission with the likes of my boy Ryan and many other special people (shouts to NAAF by the way). With unity there is strength. Help out, carry this message, be a part of something bigger than you. And of course, GO MAVS! Let the NBA season begin! It's showtime!!!

God bless,
